ASTER is the Consortium for innovation and technology transfer of Emilia-Romagna among the Emilia-Romagna Regional Government, the 6 Universities of the region, the national research centers CNR, ENEA and INFN.
Active since 1985 its mission is the promotion of industrial research and innovation, through technology transfer, with the aim of promoting technological innovation in industry, creating link between research and enterprises, fostering start-up and spin-off, and identifying the great frontiers of science which will influence future economy.
Since 2004 it coordinates the Emilia-Romagna High Technology Network, made up of Industrial Research Laboratories providing skills, facilities and resources to the business sector. The Network is organised in thematic platforms - among which ICT and Mechanics-Material.
Cornerstone of ASTER activity are project design and development: starting since late 80’s, ASTER has managed more than 100 European Commission funded projects, 30% of which as lead partner
ASTER also participates in many national, European and international networks among which EFFRA -European Factories of the Future Research Association and SPIRE - Sustainable Process Industry through Resource and Energy Efficiency, while at national level is member of the Steering Committee of the Intelligent Factory Cluster, being also in charge of its technical secretary.
The headquarter is located in Bologna; in addition, since November 2015 ASTER has an office in Brussels within the Emilia-Romagna Delegation and leads also a thriving activity in Silicon Valley for assisting startups through training and study visits.
